The bowlers set it up and the batsmen saw them home as Tamil Nadu comfortably beat Bengal by six wickets with eight overs to spare at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. The win helped TN close to within two points off first-placed Jharkhand.

Bengal got off to a good start thanks to AR Easwaran but then a middle-order collapse meant that they went from 133/2 to being bowled out for 239 with four balls remaining in their quota of 50 overs. Vijay Shankar starred with the ball as he picked up four wickets.

143-run opening stand between Abhinav Mukund and N Jagadeesan made things quite easy for TN and although Mukund fell just six short of his century, cameos from Baba Aparajith and Baba Indrajith helped TN get over the line with eight overs to spare.

Brief Scores: Bengal 239 in 49.4 overs (AR Easwaran 72; Vijay Shankar 4-34, M Mohammed 3-54) lost to Tamil Nadu 240/4 in 42 overs (Abhinav Mukund 94, N Jagadeesan 55) by six wickets

Brief scores: Jammu and Kashmir 122 in 34 overs (Piyush Chawla 3-29) lost to Gujarat 127/2 in 21.1 overs (Priyank Panchal 49) by eight wickets.

Brief Scores: Haryana 175/7 in 41.2 overs (Chaitanya Bishnoi 55*; Rajib Saha 3-25) beat Tripura 171 in 45 overs (Bravish Shetty 60; Harshal Patel 3-19)
