The Pondicherry cricket team is currently on a tour to Malaysia to play a series of five 50-over One Day matches. All five games, set to be organized between Friday, June 13, and Monday, June 23, will be hosted by the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Malaysian cricket team recently hosted Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Thailand for a Quadrangular T20I Series in Kuala Lumpur last month. They finished second on the points table with four wins and a defeat from six matches (one no-result) at the end of the opening round. Malaysia then defeated table-toppers Saudi Arabia in a lop-sided final by 18 runs, doing so under the leadership of batting all-rounder Syed Aziz.
Virandeep Singh and captain Aziz excelled with the bat in the tournament by minting 218 and 193 runs respectively, each from six innings at prolific averages. Off-spinner Vijay Unni hogged the limelight with the ball for Malaysia. He bagged 10 wickets in the series from seven innings at an impressive bowling average of 13.
The Pondicherry cricket team, on the other hand, last played 50-over matches during the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy season in India. Under the leadership of Arun Karthik, Pondicherry finished fifth on the Group C points table of the tournament. They secured just three wins and sustained four defeats from seven matches, accumulating 12 points in the process. They fell well short of a spot in the playoffs in the eight-team group.
Nonetheless, their disastrous campaign was somehow glittered with the all-round excellence of Aman Hakim Khan. The 28-year-old all-rounder top-scored for his team in the competition with 250 runs from seven innings at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 96.52. He also picked up the highest number of wickets among all Pondicherry bowlers with 13 scalps from seven innings at an average of 24.23.
