Michael Clarke lends support to Sean Abbott

Australian captain Michael Clarke has promised that Sean Abbott will receive complete backing from himself and the entire Australian cricketing fraternity when the young fast bowler decides to start focussing on the game, again, besides stressing that no one has blamed him for what happened to Phillip Hughes.

Hughes passed away this Thursday at St. Vincent’s Hospital after being hit on the head by an Abbott-bouncer in a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales on November 25 at Sydney Cricket Ground.

Abbott, quite understandably, has been finding it hard coming to terms with the turn of events. Clarke, meanwhile, has come forward to lend his support to the 22-year-old New South Wales player. Herald Sun has quoted him as saying, “I would like to say some words about Sean Abbott. This is a tremendous young man with a bright future whose life has changed forever by this accident. And that’s what it is - a freak accident.”

“No-one — not one single person — blames him in any way for what has happened. He deserves our full support, he will absolutely have mine whenever he needs it, and I know that also goes for the entire Australian cricket community. Sean, when you feel like getting back on the horse mate, I promise you that I will be the first to strap on the pads and go stand up the end of the net to hit them back at you. It’s exactly what Hugh Dog would want us both to do.”
