Analysing the mistakes in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

MS Dhoni-The Untold Story is a massive hit among the fans

The most anticipated movie for cricket fans, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story hit the screens a couple of days back and has got a decent reception from critics and fans alike. The movie portrayed how the Indian ODI and T20I skipper started playing the game and how he struggled before representing India.

Sushant Singh Rajput adapted Dhoni’s role to perfection and the director, Neeraj Pandey made sure that the fans wouldn’t get bored in spite of the movie running for over three hours.

In spite of the good reviews, one cannot say that the biopic was perfect. Many noticed that Dhoni’s hair grew by seven inches in just two months and Dhoni’s mother getting him a poster of Sachin in the early1990s which had Sachin wearing India’s ODI jersey post-2011!

There were a few mistakes in the movie that went unnoticed and we highlight some of those mistakes:

#1 No signs of NS Dhoni

Moviegoers would recall that Bhumika Chawla essayed the role of Dhoni’s lone sibling in the movie. But in reality, MS Dhoni has two siblings. Yes, MS Dhoni has an elder brother, who was not shown in the movie.

Dhoni's elder brother Narendra Singh Dhoni's character was completely omitted from the biopic. NS Dhoni is a familiar face in Ranchi as he is a well-known politician in that part of the country. NS Dhoni joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2009 but left the party as he was not happy with the leaders.

Later, he went on to join Samajwadi Party in 2013.There are some speculations that Dhoni's family has cut ties with his NS Dhoni, who now lives away from them with his wife and two children.

#2 Endorsements

MS Dhoni after he was announced as the brand ambassador for Lava mobiles

In the movie, it was shown that Dhoni endorsed several brands including Finolex, Lava phones, Garnier etc. Dhoni, the brand ambassador for Lava mobiles, was portrayed in advertisements promoting Lava mobiles in 2008 but the brand was founded in 2009 and Dhoni was roped in as their brand ambassador earlier this year.

How can someone endorse a product even before it’s inception? Here is a tweet from Lava announcing MS Dhoni as their brand ambassador on April 10, 2016.

One more mistake in the endorsement section of the movie was Dhoni promoting Garnier. It should be noted that Dhoni has never endorsed Garnier in reality and the reel-life Dhoni, Sushant Singh Rajput is the brand ambassador for the product.

#3 The MS Dhoni-Priyanka Jha part

MS Dhoni Priyanka Jha
A still from the biopic

Even before the release of MS Dhoni’s biopic, it was revealed that the biopic will have portions of MS Dhoni’s love story with Priyanka Jha. And the makers didn’t disappoint as they showed how Dhoni met Priyanka, how they spent their time together and about the tragic incident in which Priyanka lost her life after meeting with an accident.

In the movie, it was portrayed that Dhoni met Priyanka en route to Vizag from Kochi after the first ODI against Pakistan in 2005 and the duo spent most of their time together till India’s tour of Pakistan in 2006. According to the movie, Priyanka met with an accident on 14 February 2006, which is false. In fact, the entire depiction of the MS Dhoni-Priyanka Jha part in the movie is wrong.

It was way back in the year 2002 when he was aspiring to be an Indian cricketer that Dhoni met Priyanka. When the wicket-keeper was with the India A squad in 2003-04 for a tri-series in Kenya, Priyanka lost her life due to an accident. She never saw Dhoni playing an ODI for India.

#4 When MS Dhoni met Sakshi Rawat

In the movie, it was depicted that Sakshi Rawat, an intern at Taj Bengal in Kolkata knew nothing about Dhoni including the fact that he is the Indian captain. It was also her last day at the place and later, she moved to Aurangabad. Not everything related to this is true. Yes, Sakshi interned at Taj Bengal and when she met Dhoni and it was her last day at work.

But, they knew each other ever since they were children as MS Dhoni’s father Paan Singh Dhoni and Sakshi's father worked together in Ranchi and both Sakshi and Dhoni went to the same school (not the same class) in Ranchi. Sakshi’s family moved to Dehradun to stay along with her grandfather and since then, Dhoni and Sakshi were not in touch with each other.

When India was playing Pakistan in a Test match at Kolkata in 2007, Dhoni incidentally met Sakshi at the Taj Bengal and both stayed in touch post the meeting. It was during India’s 2008 tour to Australia when they both started dating each other and ended up marrying in 2010.
