Amongst all the never heard facts about Dhoni, the tragic death of his ex-girlfriend, Priyanka Jha is the most prominent. The flamboyant Jharkhand lad was in his early 20s when he fell madly in love with Priyanka. He had even decided to marry her before the unfortunate accident shattered his dreams.
It was way back in the year 2002 when he was aspiring to be an Indian cricketer that he met Priyanka. She supported him endlessly and always instilled the belief in him to realize his dream of representing India at the highest level. Eventually, he broke his way through to the India A squad in 2003-04 for a tri-series in Kenya also involving Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
There, he scored a match-winning half-century in the very first match and followed it up with a magnificent century. He finished with 362 runs at a staggering average of 72 which caught the attention of the then Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and interregnum coach Ravi Shastri.
The fatal accident involving Priyanka occurred in between the tri-series and Dhoni received a serious setback following the incident. He virtually stopped talking with anyone for a year but showed grit and determination to come back strongly and make his debut for the national team against Bangladesh in 2005.
Though he was dismissed for a naught in his very first match, he made a major impact in the 2nd ODI against Pakistan at Vizag scoring a swashbuckling 148. Within a few days he followed it up with a breathtaking 183 against Sri Lanka and there was no looking back for the hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman.
The following years witnessed a rapid rise of the young sensation as he went on to become one of the greatest ever captains. Priyanka’s role has been portrayed in the movie by Disha Patani. Movie director Neeraj Pandey had come all the way to Darbhanga and after a brief chat with Priyanka’s family, Neeraj decided to sign Disha Patani for her role.
The director remained silent about the details and urged everyone to come to any conclusion only after the release of the movie. Priyanka’s family also refused to give any views and said they will comment only after the release of the movie.
