"It was hard for me to narrate my story because I am a person who believes in living in the present. The past or future do not matter to me, so it is very hard when I am asked to recount episodes from my childhood or from several years ago," Dhoni said.

The film depicts Dhoni’s rise from a humble background as a railway ticket inspector to being one of the most marketable sporting athletes in the world, is by Dhoni's own admission an attempt to inspire rather than glorify his achievements.

According to Dhoni, he has always tried to lead his life in a simple way but concedes that it is highly unlikely that everything goes according to plan.

"Govt job milni mushkil hai, chhorni usse bhi mushkil hai (It is more difficult to give up a government job than to get it)," Dhoni said."You see a ball, you hit a ball. The moment you get into yorkers and off spin, it gets too complicated."

Dhoni paid tribute to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput who plays his character in the movie and, feels that the latter has done full justice to the role by putting in extra physical training to achieve the best possible physique as a sportsperson.

"Better to leave the acting to others, I will stick to cricket", Dhoni said when asked whether he ever considered playing himself in the movie. "He (Sushant Singh Rajput) could be better than some cricketers", Dhoni said on Rajput’s performance.
