Moneyball9 Fantasy Tips: 5 players you should not pick in Zimbabwe-India series

MS Dhoni

As India are all set to begin their new season with a short limited overs trip to Zimbabwe, fans around the country are gearing up for some exciting fantasy contests. Admittedly, more players from India will be in demand considering they are the favourites despite going in with a second string outfit. But not every single player is going to guarantee you points. There are a few you should be avoiding for some reasons.

MS Dhoni

Now this could come in as a surprise for many out there but yes, it is advisable to not pick Dhoni for this series. Obviously, it isn’t because there are any doubts over his ability. He could easily demolish this bowling attack but will he get a chance to do so is the question. Dhoni likes giving more opportunities to younger players in the batting department by making them bat higher up the order so it will be a surprise if he ever bats anywhere above six.

Considering some of these batsmen are eager to make a statement on the big stage, Dhoni might not get to bat at all. Also, there is a possibility of Zimbabwe batting first and collapsing early which again rules the skipper out of action with the bat. You don’t want to spend 9000 bucks on someone who isn’t going to bat a lot of deliveries or bowl, do you? KL Rahul is an ideal candidate for that wicket-keeper slot considering he will bat higher up the order and costs just half of Dhoni’s price.

Rishi Dhawan

Will Rishi Dhawan get a game in the first place? Even if he does get one, will it be advisable to spend 8000 bucks on him? You can do it only if you are willing to take a huge gamble because the Himachal Pradesh all-rounder is not going to bat many deliveries and he is predominantly used as a container and not as a wicket-taking option.

In such a scenario, he may only end up with a good economy rate which won’t fetch you a lot of points and you don’t want to end up spending huge sums of money on such a player. Also, he hasn’t played a lot of cricket recently as Kings XI Punjab didn’t feature him regularly in their XI, so he might start on the bench for India as well in the beginning.

Sean Williams

Unfortunately, Sean Williams hasn’t been able to hit the consistency that was expected from him. He has natural talent with both bat and ball but is very inconsistent. It is better to not pick him at least at the start of the tournament so that you can keep an eye on his performances before taking a call for the future games.

His batting average of 33 in ODI cricket might tempt the user to have him in the side but off late, he hasn’t been consistent. He made only one half-century in the World T20 earlier this year and wasn’t effective with the ball. The fact that he costs 7500 rupees makes matters worse since you can go for some other all-rounder for a cheaper price.

Chamu Chibhabha

Chibhabha could open or bat anywhere in the top order and that could tempt you to probably include him and see what he can offer to your fantasy team but here you have another Zimbabwean who hasn’t been reliable with the bat. He has played 93 ODIs for his country but is still averaging less than 25. The fact that he can contribute with the ball can be taken into consideration but one would expect the Indian batsmen to dominate him.

He costs 7000 rupees in the fantasy and one can get reliable players for the same price or even cheaper and considering you can pick only three batsmen in your fantasy side, it is always better to opt for Indian batsmen over the Zimbabweans.

Richmond Mutumbami

Another Zimbabwean player who should be avoided at all costs despite his lower price tag. Mutumbami would cost only 4500 rupees but would you want to pick him ahead of the likes of Dhoni, Rahul or even Kedar Jadhav, who impressed the last time he came to Zimbabwe. Mutumbami is likely to be the designated gloveman and could bat at No. 3 as he did in the World T20 but at the moment, it is evident that he lacks temperament to succeed on a consistent level.

He averages just 22 with the bat and has a modest strike rate of 72 which isn’t ideal especially when you have much better options. You could be tempted to take a massive gamble by picking the 26-year-old in your squad but the move in all likelihood will backfire massively.
