Monty Panesar banned till 2014 by ECB

Just after being handed a fixed notice two months ago for urinating on night club bouncers in Brighton in England’ south coast, England spinner Monty Panesar has been given a suspended ban until the end of the 2014 cricket season for potentially threatening and intimidating behavior.

Allegations over Monty Panesar’s character and behaviour were raised on Friday when he got into a spat with Worcestershire batsman Ross Whiteley. Umpire and former test batsman Peter Willey intervened while Essex captain James Foster was also summoned by the match officials, reports NDTV.

Panesar was cautioned by the England and Wales Cricket board for two incidents while playing for Essex against Worcestershire in the County Championship this month.

Panesar breached ECB directive 3.2, stating, “He did not conduct himself fairly and properly on the field.”

Just a dew days after being recalled into the England team for the Australia tour, Panesar who currently happens to be the second best spinner in England with 164 wickets at 33.78 in 48 Tests, found himself in a big mess after the behaviour sentencing.

England national selector Geoff Miller, himself a former Test spinner, said when announcing the Ashes squad on Monday, “Monty had his problems, which we’ve worked hard to rectify in the last six weeks – and he has too.

“He’s a proven international bowler, who has shown what he’s capable of doing on many occasions for us.”

Miller added: “He’s very prepared to let his bowling do the talking for him, so I’m prepared to accept that. He’s an experienced international player and it’s up to him to actually produce the goods for us.”
