If Mukesh Ambani can, why can't I? - Sourav Ganguly on his many hats

Sourav Ganguly

Assuming office as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)’s joint-secretary today, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has said that, in the guidance of CAB chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, he is expecting himself to ease into his new role and execute the plans that he has in his mind.

When asked about what he finds as the most difficult aspect to manage – playing cricket or being in an administrative role – Ganguly said: “In cricket, you get only one life but here you’ll get opportunities. I’ve a very good team headed by Jagmohan Dalmiya, we have to work together. It’s a different feeling to sit on this chair.”

Despite being a commentator, albeit not being a regular one, football team Atletico de Kolkata co-owner and now a joint-secretary, the 42-year-old is confident of doing justice to all the roles. On how he plans to do that, the southpaw said: “If Mukesh Ambani can run so many companies together, why can’t I? I’ll have to be in my hometown for both football and CAB. I’ll be away only for a few months (for commentary)…”

Presently employed by Star Sports India as a commentator for the ongoing England-India series in England, Ganguly has flown back home, making use of the 6-day break between the 3rd and the 4th Test, to take charge. On his plans for the future, Ganguly, elected unchallenged, said: “I’ve some plans in my mind but I’ll take about four-five months to get them implemented. The priorities would be to develop the wicket and give special attention on players’ selection.”
