Mushfiqur Rahim apologises for celebrating India's loss on Twitter

Mushfiqur Rahim after being dismissed against India in the T20 World Cup

Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim invited yet another controversy yesterday after he openly expressed his joy at India's exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2016. After winning 3 consecutive matches, including a 1-run victory over the Bangladeshis, the Indian team finally succumbed by 7 wickets to a dominant West Indies team in the semi-final.

Rahim had courted controversy in the match against India when he had celebrated prematurely after hitting Hardik Pandya for 2 back-to-back boundaries in the final over. As luck would have it, though, the diminutive batsman was dismissed off the next delivery and his team fell agonisingly short of the target by just 2 runs.

Soon after Team India's loss in the semis, Mushfiqur Rahim had tweeted, "Happiness is this....!!!!!! #ha ha ha...!!!! India lost in the semifinal."

However, Rahim did not get away with his tweet and suffered heavy backlash at the hands of Twitter users, particularly Indian team supporters. Realizing the negative impression that was created by his reaction, the Bangladeshi player made quick amends and offered an apology for it.

He posted another tweet stating, "Sorry to all of you guys...as i am a big West Indies supporter but anyway sorry again for some harsh words...!!!! To add to it, Mushfiqur Rahim also ensured that he removed the previous tweet.

There is already a considerable amount of bitterness in the cricketing rivalry between India and Bangladesh and incidents like this only add fuel to the fire.
