This is another innings from the 2014 series and this came in the very first game of the series. India had won the toss and elected to field first. The Kiwi openers were back in the hit by the 8th over and the score read 32/2.

However, it was Kane Williamson, in the company of Ross Taylor, who stabilized the innings and set the platform. Having walked out to bat at the end of the 4th over, the Central Districts right-hander was at the crease for close to two hours and when he was dismissed, he put his team in a strong position.

Williamson had a slow start to his innings as he made 12 off his first 32 deliveries. However, three boundaries in three consecutive overs got him going and that set the tone. He then played the Indian spinners beautifully as he maneuvered the field well. He stitched a 121-run stand with Taylor as he built an excellent platform. He was dismissed for 71 as he struck 7 fours in his 88-ball stay at the crease.

Corey Anderson’s 40-ball 68 and Luke Ronchi’s cameo propelled New Zealand to 292. It eventually was enough as Virat Kohli’s ton went in vain and India fell 24 runs short.
