Seven of the eight Super 8 slots for the ICC Men's 2024 T20 World Cup have been confirmed. India and United States have progressed to the next round from Group A. Ashes rivals Australia and England have made to the Super 8 from Group B. Further, Afghanistan and co-hosts West Indies have sealed their berth in the next round from Group C.

If we talk about Group D, South Africa have clinched one of the two Super 8 spots, having won all their four group games, albeit not in a very convincing manner. While Nepal and Sri Lanka have been eliminated from the qualification race, either Bangladesh or Netherlands will clinch the last Super 8 slot.

Both Bangladesh and the Dutch will be in action on Monday, June 17 as they would feature in their respective last group games. The Asian side face Nepal at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown in St Vincent, while Netherlands will be up against Sri Lanka at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium at Gros Islet in St Lucia.

What Bangladesh and Netherlands need to do to qualify for Super 8 of 2024 T20 World Cup

Looking at Bangladesh first, they are in a very good position to qualify for the Super 8 round. They have four points from three matches and a net run rate of +0.478. If Bangladesh beat Nepal in their last group match, they will confirm their place in the Super 8 round of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

A victory against Nepal will take Bangladesh to six points. The maximum Netherlands can reach even if they beat Sri Lanka in their last group game is four. Meanwhile, if Bangladesh lose to Nepal, they can still progress to the next round if the Dutch go down to Sri Lanka and stay on two points.

In case Bangladesh lose to Nepal and Netherlands beat Sri Lanka, qualification with depend on the net run rate. Bangladesh's net run rate is a healthy +0.478, while Netherlands have a net run rate of -0.408.

Netherlands have two points from three matches. If Bangladesh beat Nepal, the Dutch will be knocked out. However, if Bangladesh go down to Nepal and Netherlands beats Sri Lanka, things will get interesting. In such a scenario, Netherlands will need to surpass Bangladesh on net run rate to qualify for the Super 8.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, the combined margin of the results of the two matches should be at least 53 runs. For example, if the teams batting first score 140 and Bangladesh lose to Nepal by 38 runs, Netherlands will need to beat Sri Lanka by at least 15 runs.
