New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is set to play his first match of the ongoing 2023 World Cup. He makes his return with the side's contest against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 13.

Williamson was forced to be on the sidelines for several months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during this year's Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) in April. His injury made his availability for the 2023 World Cup a touch-and-go prospect.

However, much to the delight of New Zealand fans, the veteran batter seems to have regained full fitness. While he didn't feature in the team's first two fixtures, he will make his much-anticipated return against Bangladesh.

His presence will undoubtedly bolster the Blackcaps' batting lineup, given his impressive record in the competition. Williamson has chalked up 911 runs from 23 matches at an average of 56.93 in ODI World Cups.

It is worth mentioning that the seasoned campaigner batted in the two warm-up matches ahead of the ICC event, registering scores of 54 and 37 against Pakistan and South Africa, respectively. He was retired out in both games.

New Zealand are off to a brilliant start in the showpiece event. With back-to-back wins to their name, they are currently placed second in the points table. A win over Bangladesh will take them to the top of the standings.
