Australia's swashbuckling batter Travis Head departed at the stroke of lunch on Day 1 (Wednesday, June 1) of the team's World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final against South Africa at Lord's, London. The southpaw scored 11 runs off 13 balls during his brief stay at the crease.
Australia were off to a shaky start after being put in to bat first. Head walked out when they were reeling at 46/3 in 18 overs. The onus was on the left-handed batter to steer his team's ship out of the choppy waters.
However, the danger man failed to get a substantial score under his belt. He was out caught behind off Marco Jansen's bowling while attempting to flick a full-length delivery on the leg stump.
The ball ended up taking the edge of his bat and keeper Kyle Verreynne completed a stunning diving catch. Head was trolled by many fans on social media following his dismissal.
Here are some of the top reactions on X:
"Blind slogging doesn't work against skills and planning.Travis Head gone for 11(13)," wrote a fan.
"Never seen Travis Head play a genuinely classy knock, not when it counts. Even in the BGT, the moment the pitch had some movement in the last two games, he was exposed. And that’s always the case, If the ball’s doing anything, Travis Head’s doing nothing," posted a fan.
"It was actually India that made Travis Head look like a beast. Remove the Indian team from the equation, and his stats reveal he's just an average player with a clutch mindset," remarked another.
"No India, no party. Man vanished," chimed in yet another.
Head's dismissal put Australia in a precarious position. The defending champions went into Lunch on Day 1 at 67/4 in 23.2 overs.
