Ollie Robinson has been cleared fit to join the England squad for the Ireland Test

England pacer Ollie Robinson has been cleared to join the England Test squad ahead of their one-off Test against Ireland following a minor injury scare.

The right-arm pacer reported discomfort to his left ankle following Sussex's contest against Glamorgan in the County Championship Division Two season.

Much to England's relief, the subsequent scans did not show any damage, which gives him a green signal to partake in the Lord's Test against Ireland, which begins on June 1.

The England and Wales Cricket Board released a short statement on Ollie Robinson, which read:

"Sussex and England seamer Ollie Robinson had a scan on Monday to determine the extent of some discomfort in his left ankle after playing for Sussex in the LV= Insurance County Championship Division Two match against Glamorgan at Hove last week."
"Scan results have revealed no damage to the ankle and that Robinson will join up with the England Men’s Test squad this weekend ahead of the LV= Insurance Test match against Ireland starting on Thursday 1 June at Lord’s," the statement added.

Ben Stokes and Co. are already combating an injury crisis in their fast bowling unit, with James Anderson, Olly Stone and Jofra Archer all injured. England will have to make do without the latter as he has been ruled out of the entire English summer due to a stress fracture to his elbow.

With skipper Stokes not to play in the IPL 2023 playoffs, the squad will revert their attention to the upcoming English summer which also features the highly-anticipated Ashes series from June 16 onwards.

Ollie Robinson has been in fine form for Sussex in the County Championship

The pace bowler has been sharing the dressing room with Test greats Steve Smith and Cheteshwar Pujara, as they gear up for the all-important World Test Championship (WTC). During the most recent encounter against Marnus Labuschagne and Co. in Hove, he ended with figures of 4/29 and 1/46.

Prior to that, he picked up 14 wickets across both innings in Sussex's contest against Worcestershire, leaving him in great shape for the upcoming Tests against Ireland and Australia.
