"Our contracts have been torn up" - Oman cricketer makes shocking revelation following participation in 2024 T20 World Cup

Oman cricketer Kashyap Prajapati made a shocking revelation regarding the team's participation in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The ICC had announced a cash prize of $225,000 for the participating teams.

However, according to a report in The Indian Express, the Oman Cricket Board received the amount from the ICC but have not given it to the players yet. Kashyap Prajapati also revealed that players lost their spots in the team and that their contracts were torn up.

“Our lives have been upended over this issue; we’ve lost our spot in the team, our contracts have been torn up, and we have been forced to leave the country. It’s just so confusing and we don’t understand why the ICC isn’t able to ensure we get paid the prize money we have earned, and why there isn’t a safe space for us to raise concerns?" he was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Another Oman cricketer, Fayyaz Butt, opened up on his hardships following the unfortunate turn of events.

“It’s been a massive loss for my career and professionally. I had to leave Oman. I’m not working at the moment, looking for opportunities but our playing careers are over," he said.

The team last played in a tri-series in Canada involving the host nation and the United States of America (USA) in May 2025.

It was a dream-come-true moment for the players of Oman who had the opportunity to participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They were slotted in Group B alongside Namibia, Scotland, England, and Australia.

They first played Namibia in an intense game that went down to the Super Over, which Namibia eventually won. Their next clash was against Australia, where they put up a fight but lost by 39 runs.

In their third game against Scotland, they faced a seven-wicket defeat before losing their final match of the tournament against England by eight wickets. Oman finished last in Group B with no points.

Nonetheless, participating in the marquee ICC T20 tournament came as a proud moment for the team, as they got the opportunity to play against some of the top teams in world cricket.
