The Pondicherry Premier League 2024 season witnessed another double-header on Monday, August 12, at the Cricket Association Pondicherry Siechem Ground. Villianur Mohit Kings and Karaikal Kniights registered emphatic victories over Ossudu Accord Warriors and Yanam Royals, respectively, as the tournament reached its halfway stage.
Following the two results, Mahe Megalo Strikers remain the rightful table-toppers with four wins from league fixtures. They lead second-placed White Town Giants based on a superior net run rate (NRR), with both teams having eight points each.
Villianur Mohit Kings moved to six points from six games after defeating Ossudu Accord Warriors to remain third in the six-team standings. Karaikal Kniights and Ossudu Accord Warriors take the fourth and fifth slots, respectively, for registering a solitary win so far in their campaigns. With just one win and a dismal NRR of -1.466, Yanam Royals languishes at the bottom of the table.
Aman Khan, Ratnaparkhe all-round displays light up Pondicherry Premier League
Batting first, Villianur Mohit Kings' No. 3 Aman Hakim Khan smashed 83 runs off just 44 balls with the aid of seven boundaries and five sixes. Opener Mohit Kale scored 52 off 31 balls as the Mohit Kings blazed their way to 200/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing a monumental 201-run target, Ossudu Accord Warriors' fight came to an end at 141 in 18.4 overs. Sabhay Chadha (2/35), Naman Sharma (2/18), and Jullian Jacob (2/22) chipped in with two wickets each for the Mohit Kings'. Half-centurion with the bat, Hakim Khan also claimed two wickets in his four-over spell to cap a remarkable all-round performance for himself. Villianur Mohit Kings eventually secured a huge NRR-boosting 59-run win.
Later in the evening, Yanam Royals made 149/8 from 20 overs off the back of Ganga Sridhar Raju’s 42 and Ameer Zeeshan’s 30-ball 39. For the Karaikal Kniights, five of the six utilized bowlers claimed a wicket each, with Paras Ratnaparkhe being the pick with figures of 1/13 from three overs.
In response, Karaikal Kniights overcame early jitters to chase down the 150-run target in the final over of the match. After countering K Subramaniyan’s double-wicket strike, Marimuthu Vikneshwaran (42 off 29 balls) and Mohammed Aqib Jawad (37 off 26 balls) played handy knocks. Ankit Sharma at No. 6 launched two sixes in his 12-ball cameo to steer his team past the finishing line with five wickets to spare.
