Tuskers XI calculated their run-chase to perfection against Panthers XI in match number 11 of the 2024 Pondicherry T20 League on Wednesday, July 10. In the second match of the double-header at the Cricket Association Puducherry Siechem Ground, Sharks XI and Lions XI were involved in a high-octane thriller, where the former prevailed with a four-run margin on the last ball.

Being put into bat first, Panthers XI openers Ameer Zeeshan N and Mohan Doss R shared 89 runs in less than 11 overs before the latter became the first of S Krishnakumar’s four victims of the day. Captain Nitin Pranav V at number four launched three boundaries and two sixes during his 21-ball 39 to surge the Panthers’ total to a competitive 173/6. Opener Ameer Zeeshan N himself top-scored in the innings with a fluent 63-run knock.

Among the Tuskers, S Krishnakumar picked up figures of 4/21 from his four overs while new-ball bowlers Shree Varshan-KG and Hari Shankar also chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, unbeaten number three Ujwal S Gowda smacked 62 from 39 balls for the Tuskers to steer his side to a six-wicket win in the penultimate over of the match.

Opener Virendra Singh laid out the groundwork at the top with a fiery 30-ball 44, while wicketkeeper Nitesh Sharma added the finishing touches to the chase with a sizzling 23-run cameo from just 11 deliveries. The trio safely negotiated Karan Kannan’s sublime four-over spell of 2/34.

In the afternoon game, Sharks XI were bundled out for 151 in exactly 20 overs by Lions XI bowlers Karthigesan-S (3/18), Mohanakrishnan D Duraisamy (2/16), M Rajasekar (1/18), P Kalaiyamudhan (1/11) and Aman Ahuja (1/19).

For the Sharks XI, opener George Samuel A and tailender Maria Ajay-M jointly top-scored with 27 runs each, and the innings also featured a short-lived 24 from middle-order batter Vikas Gupta.

Chasing 152, Lions XI crashed to 147/9 from 20 overs to fall four runs short of their target. Apart from opener Gajender Tanwar (35 from 29 balls), none of the other batters managed to rebel against Love Kumar (3/25), Mithilesh Mishra (2/24) and Vikas Gupta (1/17).

Bulls XI batter Anand Bais, Panthers XI star Ayudh Sharma, and Tuskers cricketers Ritesh Gudge and P Akash continue to remain the top four leading run-makers of the 2024 Pondicherry T20 League with 140, 137, 135 and 127 runs, respectively.

Harsh Vaishnav from Tigers XI and Mohit Kale from Lions XI have jointly tallied 109 runs each to be respectively placed at number five and six on the top-10 batting charts of the season.

Bulls XI colleagues Rajesh Thakur and Ragavan Ramamoorthy occupy the next two slots with 98 runs each, while Panthers XI opener Ameer Zeeshan N jumped into the top 10 at number nine through his latest 63-run knock. Mohit Mittan slipped to number 10 with 91 runs to his name.

Karan Kannan jumped to the top of the 2024 Pondicherry T20 League bowling charts with seven wickets through his latest spell of 2/34 against the Tuskers.

Rajakavi Rajagopal (seven wickets), Ravi Yadav (six wickets) and Rahul Rajeev (six wickets) all lost a rung each to slip to number two, three and four, respectively. Kannan’s teammate Jullian Jacab also burst into the top five through his solitary wicket against Tuskers.

S Parameeswaran, Krishnakumar-S, JR Sreeraj, Pranesh-S, and Love Kumar all occupy the bottom half of the top-10 wicket-taking charts with four scalps each.
