Tuskers XI extended their dominance by pummelling Lions XI in the final match of the ongoing Pondicherry T20 League 2024 season. With the outcome, the Tuskers XI registered their fifth win in a row and qualified for the semifinals with an unbeaten run to their credit.
Tigers XI finished at number two with four wins and a defeat from five fixtures, maintaining a healthy NRR of 1.142. Bulls XI, with three wins, and Sharks XI, with two wins, became the third and fourth teams respectively to qualify for the semifinals.
Panthers XI sustained four defeats from five attempts and held an NRR of a negative 0.516 to finish the tournament at number five on the standings. Apart from Panthers XI, Lions XI also crashed out of the semifinal race, albeit with five defeats from as many matches to dwell at the bottom of the six-team points table.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Lions XI folded up for just 122 in 19.3 overs. Wicketkeeper Shailesh Vaithianathan, number seven Mohanakrishnan D Duraisamy, and captain Karthigesan-S all listed valiant 20s to emerge as the biggest benefactors of their team’s dismal batting effort on the day.
Among the Tuskers XI bowlers, Saie Sharan Y blitzed through the Lions batting order by collecting figures of 4/17 from 3.3 overs. His bowling colleagues Hari Shankar (2/17) and Vinay Murugesh (2/23) also assisted by providing timely breakthroughs in the innings.
In response, Tuskers XI gunned down their 123-run target in just 12 overs, with captain Jashwanth Shreeram R smacking an unbeaten 52 from 37 balls and number three P Sunil Kumar blasting a rapid half-century.
Kumar launched five boundaries and three towering sixes during his 24-ball whirlwind knock and shared a match-defining 60-run partnership with captain Jashwanth following the early dismissal of opening batter Kushwanth Silora to Lions’ M Rajasekar.
Rishi Raut picked up the only other wicket to fall in the Tuskers XI innings by dismissing a rampaging P Sunil Kumar at 84/2 in the ninth over of the match.
