South Africa inch closer to winning 2025 WTC final

Winning the toss on the first day of the 2025 WTC final, South Africa asked Australia to bat first and bowled them out for just 212 runs in the first innings. However, Australia brought the game back into balance, as they skittled South Africa over for just 138 to take the lead in the second innings.

As Australia returned to bat in the third innings, they were reduced to 73/7 at one stage. However, crucial knocks from Alex Carey (43) and Mitchell Starc (58*) helped them get to 207 all out, setting South Africa a target of 282 runs.

The Proteas, despite losing a couple of wickets, have put up a brilliant display of batting so far on the third day of the game. They are in complete control and on their way to script a historic run-chase. At the time of writing, the Proteas are at 206/2 after 54 overs with Aiden Markram batting on 98 and skipper Temba Bavuma on 62.

Needing just 76 more runs to win with eight wickets in hand, they are inching closer to winning the 2025 WTC final, in what is also their maiden final appearance.
