On Friday, December 13, the semi-final matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy took place. In the first match, Baroda faced off against Mumbai, while the second game saw Delhi take on Madhya Pradesh.
Mumbai won the toss and chose to bowl first in their semi-final encounter against Baroda. Batting first, Baroda posted a total of 158/7, with notable contributions from Shashwat Rawat (33 off 29), Krunal Pandya (30 off 24), and Shivalik Sharma (36 off 24).
In response, Mumbai's aggressive batting led them to victory. Ajinkya Rahane played a match-winning knock of 98 runs off 56 deliveries, just falling short of a century. Shreyas Iyer provided solid support with a crucial 46-run knock from 30 balls, ensuring Mumbai's successful chase and a place in the final. They chased down the game in just 17.4 overs.
In the second semi-final of the day, Madhya Pradesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. Delhi got off to a solid start, but a series of wickets falling kept them on the backfoot throughout the innings.
Despite this, Anuj Rawat (33 off 24) and Mayank Rawat (24 off 21) fought hard to keep Delhi’s hopes alive, helping them post a total of 146 runs.
In response, Madhya Pradesh chased down the target with ease, finishing the game in just 15.4 overs, with seven wickets remaining. Harsh Gawli provided a quickfire start, scoring 30 runs from 18 balls.
Harpreet Singh Bhatia (46 off 38) and Rajat Patidar (66 off 29) then put together a brilliant 102-run partnership, guiding Madhya Pradesh to a comfortable victory and securing their spot in the final.
Mumbai shall face Madhya Pradesh in the SMAT Final 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday, December 15.

Ajinkya Rahane has climbed to the top position in the run-scoring charts, moving up from fourth after his brilliant 98-run knock, bringing his total to 432 runs at an average of 61.71. Sakibul Gani has dropped one spot, now in second place with 353 runs from seven games, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 142.33. Rajat Patidar, following his match-winning knock of 66, has risen to third place with 347 runs. Bengal's Karan Lal and Abhishek Porel occupy the fourth and fifth spots, having scored 338 and 335 runs respectively from nine games.
Shreyas Iyer has also ascended the rankings, now with 329 runs at an impressive strike rate of 189.08. Meanwhile, Tilak Varma has slipped down, accumulating 327 runs from seven games at an average of 65.40. Priyansh Arya, known for his consistent performances, remains in the top 10 with 325 runs from nine games. Harvik Desai occupies the ninth position with 323 runs at a strike rate of 152.35. Rounding off the top 10 is Urvil Patel, who has scored 315 runs from just six games, securing his place among the leading run-scorers.

Jagjit Singh continues to lead the wicket-taking charts in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, having taken 18 wickets at an economy rate of 8.48. Kumar Kartikeya, with 16 wickets, has moved up one position to claim second place, maintaining an economy rate of 7.38. Mukesh Choudhary follows in third with 15 wickets from six games. Shreyas Gopal and KV Sasikanth round out the top five, each with 14 wickets. Gopal stands out with an impressive economy rate of 6.14, while Sasikanth has an economy rate of 9.66.
Atit Sheth, with 14 wickets, is closely followed by Chepurapalli Stephen, Sayan Ghosh, Bishworjit Konthoujam, and Ravi Teja, each with 13 wickets, rounding off the top 10 leading wicket-takers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Their economy rates are as follows: Sheth at 10.44, Stephen at 7.33, Ghosh at 6.77, Konthoujam at 8.64, and Teja at 8.19.
