Chamari Athapaththu shines again as Sri Lanka dominates Thailand to reach the semi-finals

Thailand Women won the toss against Sri Lanka Women and elected to bat. Thailand didn’t have a decent start and lost their first wicket on the very first delivery. They made 28 runs in the powerplay and lost two wickets.

Only one batter scored more than 20 runs for the team, and only three scored in double digits. Wicketkeeper-batter Nannapat Koncharoenkai was the highest scorer and remained unbeaten on 47 runs off 53 deliveries.

Thailand posted a total of 93 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Kavisha Dilhari was the pick of the bowlers and took two wickets for 13 runs in four overs. Achini Kulasuriya, Sugandika Kumari, Chamari Athapaththu, and Inoshi Priyadharshani took one wicket each.

Vishmi Gunaratne and Chamari Athapaththu added 94 runs for the first wicket and helped Sri Lanka win the match by 10 wickets. Athapaththu scored 49 runs off 35 deliveries, while Gunaratne scored 39 runs off 34 deliveries.

Athapaththu is the leading run-scorer and has made 180 runs in three innings and has scored a century as well.

Sri Lanka will now face Pakistan in the second semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup on Friday, July 26. Bangladesh will take on India in the first semi-final on the same day.
