Perth Scorchers suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Hobart Hurricanes in the 10th game of the Women’s Big Bash League 2023 on Wednesday, October 25, at the W.A.C.A. Ground in Perth.

Brisbane Heat lead the points table with a perfect record of three wins in three games and an impressive Net Run Rate of +1.109. Following closely in second place are the Adelaide Strikers, with a Net Run Rate of +1.170 and two wins out of three matches. Meanwhile, the Perth Scorchers have climbed to the third spot with two wins in three games, maintaining a Net Run Rate of +1.075.

Sydney Thunder currently occupy the fourth position in the standings with an impressive Net Run Rate of +2.100. The Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars are in fifth and sixth places, respectively, each having secured one win in the competition. The Renegades have a Net Run Rate of +1.875, while the Stars have a Net Run Rate of -2.494.

Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes currently find themselves in the bottom two positions in the standings, both still looking for their first victory in the competition. The Sydney Sixers have a Net Run Rate of -0.892, while the Hobart Hurricanes have a Net Run Rate of -2.863.


Perth Scorchers climb to the second spot with seven-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Hurricanes had a disastrous start to their innings and lost six wickets for just 67 runs in 10.1 overs. Naomi Stalenberg and Hayley Silver-Holmes added 84 runs for the seventh wicket and helped the team cross the 150-run mark. They lost the last four wickets for just seven runs and were bundled out for 158 runs.

Chloe Ainsworth took three wickets and conceded 25 runs in three overs. Alana King and Amy Edgar picked two wickets each, while Lilly Mills and Piepa Cleary dismissed one batter each.

Lauren Winfield-Hill and Beth Mooney provided a solid start for the Scorchers. They added 68 runs for the first wicket in 7.5 overs before Winfield-Hill was dismissed. Mooney went on to score 52 runs off 33 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six. The Scorchers easily chased down the target in 18.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
