Pakistan's 3 lowest totals vs India in ODI World Cups

A collective bowling performance from India saw Pakistan get bundled out for 191 runs in the high-octane 2023 ODI World Cup clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (October 14).

In front of a jam-packed crowd, India stepped up on the big occasion and rattled the Pakistani batting unit with aplomb. From a position of 155/2, the Indian bowlers inflicted a collapse and took all the wickets for 191 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya all took two wickets each while Babar Azam (50 off 58) top-scored for Pakistan.

Pakistan's total of 191 is now their eighth-lowest first-innings score in an ODI World Cup game. Moreover, in their matches against India, this is their third-lowest total in ODI World Cups.

#1 173/10 (second innings) in Sydney at the 1992 ODI World Cup

Pakistan's lowest team total against India came during the 1992 ODI World Cup when the two rivals met in a group-stage clash at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

Chasing a modest total of 216, Pakistan were skittled out for 173 runs in 48.1 overs.

Batting first, it didn't seem like India had enough runs on the board. However, it proved to be plenty as the Indian bowlers strangled the Pakistani batting line-up in a high-pressure run-chase.

India's first-innings total was built on Sachin Tendulkar's chanceless 54*. At just 18 years of age, Tendulkar looked at ease against the likes of Wasim Akram, Akib Javed and Mushtaq.

Tendulkar even turned the game on its head with the ball as well when he sent back Amir Sohail, who made a brilliant 62.

Tendulkar's strike broke the budding partnership between Sohail and Javed Miandad, who made 88 runs for the third wicket. Pakistan were at 105/2 when Sohail's wicket started a collapse.

The Men in Green lost their last eight wickets in the space of just 68 runs, getting all out for 173 runs in the process.

#2 180/10 (second innings) in Manchester at the 1999 ODI World Cup

Eight years after their loss in Sydney, Pakistan once again endured a drubbing against India when they were bundled out for 180 in the ODI World Cup 1999 in Manchester.

Team India didn't post a huge total on the board as they set a 228-run target for Pakistan. The side's total was built on half-centuries by Rahul Dravid (61) and Mohammad Azharuddin (59).

In response, Pakistan's innings never got going as they kept losing wickets in a cluster. Pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who always brought his best against Pakistan, rattled the batting line-up as he bagged a wonderful five-wicket haul. It was Prasad's maiden ODI fifer.

Javagal Srinath also took three crucial wickets of Shahid Afridi (6), Ijaz Ahmed (11) and Abdul Razzaq (11).

#3 191/10 (first innings) in Ahmedabad at the 2023 ODI World Cup

The latest entrant on the list, the Pakistan batters endured a tough outing in front of more than 1,00,000 people in Ahmedabad and were bundled out for 191 on Saturday. Interestingly, it is now their lowest first-innings score in an ODI World Cup game against India as well.

After being put to bat first, Pakistan started steadily before Mohammed Siraj broke the opening partnership by trapping Abdullah Shafique (20) in front. Imam-ul-Haq also nicked one behind before Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan joined hands to rebuild the innings.

The two mainstays of Pakistan cricket did a fantastic job as they added 82 runs for the third wicket. However, Siraj came back to haunt Pakistan as he took the key wicket of Babar (50).

It all went downhill for Pakistan after that as they lost their last eight wickets in a span of 36 runs. It was indeed a humiliating collapse from the visitors as they felt the heat from the Indian bowling attack.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav were on top of their game as their masterful bowling bamboozled the opposition and helped India assert their dominance in the crunch tie.

India would go on to win the match by seven wickets after chasing down the total in 30.3 overs.
