A one off Test match staged at the Wankhede stadium between the old rivals, India won the toss and decided to bat. Sunil Gavaskar paved his way to a well-composed 49 runs. From 102/1, India slumped to 197/8. 9th and 10th wicket partnerships of 26 and 19 involving Syed Kirmani, lifted them to 242. Ian Botham wreaked havoc with 6 wickets for 58 runs in his 22.5 overs.

Botham terrorised India with the bat too, as he hammered his way to 114 runs off 144 balls, which included 17 boundaries. England was reeling at 58/5. Botham and Bob Taylor’s partnership of 171 runs pulled England back from nowhere. England, as a result, replied with a competitive 296 runs. Karsan Ghavri picked up 5 wickets for 52 runs.

India fell apart in their second innings for a paltry 149 runs. Ian Botham ripped India apart, with bowling figures of 7 for 58. Kapil Dev tried to pull things back with a gritty 45, but England were too good to let India make a comeback. With a target of 96 runs, it was a walk in the park for England as they cantered to a 10 wicket victory.
