Sachin Tendulkar is considered as one of the greatest batsmen in cricketing history. After making his international debut at the young age of 16, he never looked back and kept breaking all kinds of batting records until he retired.

In India, cricket is considered as a religion and Sachin as the 'God' of Indian cricket. He has been known for his calm nature and has always controlled his emotions on the field.

But there have been moments when Sachin failed to keep his emotions in check. Let us take a look at those moments when Sachin got emotional on the field.


#5 2nd Test against New Zealand, Napier (1990)

This was Sachin's first away tour outside Subcontinent and it was a litmus test for him in New Zealand conditions. India had lost the first Test by 10 wickets.

The second Test was at Napier and India had decided to bat first after winning the toss. The first day of the Test was completely washed out, and the match finally started on day two. Sachin batted brilliantly and remained unbeaten at 80 at the end of the third day's play.

When Sachin came out to bat on the fourth morning, he was eyeing his first Test century. Unfortunately, he was dismissed on 88 by Danny Morrison, and the catch was taken by John Wright.

Sachin was completely heartbroken as he walked back to the pavilion. He could not control his tears and was devastated by the fact that he missed out on scoring his first century.

India and Pakistan were involved in a two-match Test series in 1999. The first Test was held at Chennai and after three days of gripping Test cricket, India needed 271 runs to win the match.

India lost early wickets and struggled to score runs against the quality Pakistan bowling attack. India were down to 82-5 and it was the Master Blaster who was fighting the lone battle.

Sachin was determined and kept India in the hunt with incredible batting. He was running out of partners but continued to score runs. He was battling with back injury and finally reached his hundred.

Sachin was dismissed at 136 by Saqlain Mushtaq as India needed only 17 runs at that point. India lost the match by 12 runs and Sachin could not hold his tears in the dressing room. In fact, he did not come out of the dressing room to collect his Man of the Match award.

This was one of the lowest points for the Master Blaster as he lost his father during the World Cup 1999. Sachin had to fly back to India and had missed the match against Zimbabwe.

It was uncertain whether Sachin will play in the World Cup. He came back to play against Kenya and had scored an unbeaten 140. He got emotional while batting as he had hardly recovered from the big loss.

After scoring the century, Sachin looked towards the sky and gestured his father. Since then it had become his trademark whenever he reached his three-figure mark.

This was the most anticipated World Cup as it was held in India and also the last chance for Sachin to win the World Cup.

India played brilliantly throughout the tournament and lost only one match in the league stages against South Africa. India then defeated Australia in the quarterfinals and Pakistan in semis.

India played against the might Lankans in the finals and needed 274 to win the World Cup. When Sachin and Sehwag were dismissed cheaply the team looked in deep trouble. Gambhir and Dhoni stitched a match-winning partnership and Captain Cool hit the winning runs with a six.

Sachin ran into the ground with full of joy and happiness. When he embraced an emotional Yuvraj Singh, he could not control his tears as his wait for the elusive World Cup finally ended.

It was the farewell Test for Sachin as he had announced retirement from international cricket after playing his 200th Test match. India convincingly defeated West Indies in the first Test at Eden Gardens which was Sachin's 199th match.

Sachin's farewell Test was at his home ground, Wankhede and people from all over India came to watch the Master Blaster for the last time. Sachin batted beautifully and scored a crafty 76 runs before he was dismissed.

After winning the Test, the whole team paid their respect in the form of a guard of honour to Sachin that extended all the way to the boundary. After watching the love and respect shown by his teammates, Sachin could not hold his tears back and walked off the ground with teary eyes.
