Sri Lanka vs Australia 2016: Mitchell Starc sends his regards to his Olympian younger brother

Australian speedster Mitchell Starc might be having a difficult time with his teammates not performing as well as he is in the on-going test series in Sri-Lanka, but he did not forget to wish his brother Brandon Starc who is making his nation proud at the Rio Olympics.

Brandon is a high jumper who has been performing consistently at the Games and qualified for the finals of the event. He finished 12th in the high jump at the 2015 Championships in Beijing, China.

Elder brother Mitchell is having a great individual series, though, having already taken 22 wickets in the so far he is close to breaking former Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas’ record of most wicket taken by a fast bowler in a Test series in Sri Lanka.

As per the reports of the Herald Sun, the left-arm pacer is proud about his brother’s achievements at the Olympics. He said, I’m glad we’re batting. I’ll be able to get up at about 5am and watch the brother over in Rio do his thing in the high jump.”

“I’m pretty excited. I’m proud of the younger brother to represent his country at an Olympics. He sounds pretty excited, as you would be in your first Olympic Games. I’m very proud of him” he added.

Mitchell Starc has been in his prime for the past couple of years except his spell he was ruled out due to his injury, and was instrumental in Australia’s World Cup triumph in 2015. The strike bowler of the ‘Baggy Greens’ was a promising high jumper himself during his schooldays before deciding to swing the red cherry as his profession. Younger brother Brandon has been a prominent figure in the world of athletics since 2013.

Having played only 27 Test matches, Mitcell Starc has taken 107 wickets while he has 98 ODI scalps in 51 games. Sri Lanka is currently eyeing a whitewash in the 3-match affair. The first 2 matches have been low scoring with spinners Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera and Lakshan Sandakan leading the charge.

With Australia performing well in the final Test, he will be hoping that the game finishes early as he would be eagerly waiting for his brother’s event which will be held early in the morning, before the start of 5th day’s play at the Sinhalese Sports Club, in Colombo.
