Stats: Most runs in List A cricket

Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara might have retired from international cricket nearly two years ago, but the 39-year-old is still going strong with his exquisite style of playing the game.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has kept himself busy with his commitment to Surrey in England while he has also engaged himself with T20 cricket in English off-season, turning out for teams such as Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, Karachi Kings in the PSL, Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League and Jamaica Tallawahs in the Carribean Premier League.

He also turned out for Galaxy Gladiators Lantau in the Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz earlier this year.

Even though Sangakkara started out his English domestic career with Warwickshire in 2007 and later Durham in 2014, it is at Surrey that Sangakkara has truly found a feeling of contentment. Not having to think about the rigours of international cricket may have played a part in it, but Sangakkara is clearly enjoying his time in England as a veteran at Surrey.

It is still early days in the 2017 domestic season in England, but Sangakkara has set the ball rolling already, scoring 2 centuries in three County Championship matches and helped Surrey get off the mark in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Sunday with a classy undefeated knock of 81 against Glamorgan.

During his innings, Sangakkara also crossed the landmark of 19000 runs in his List A career – only the fourth cricketer to cross that figure. It is yet another feather in the cap of the majestic cricketer who is the second highest scorer in ODI history with 14234 runs and the fifth highest run-scorer in Test cricket history with 12400 runs.

He has also scored 19778 runs in his first-class career and on Sunday, he crossed yet another landmark, this time in his List A career. After the knock against Glamorgan, Sangakkara has now scored 19021 runs from 521 List A matches at an average of 43.22. He has 37 List A hundreds as well as 118 half-centuries with his highest score being 169.

He stands fourth in the list of leading run-scorers in List A history behind the likes of Graham Gooch, Graeme Hick and Sachin Tendulkar. It would be quite an achievement for Sangakkara to catch up with the three as he is still a long way behind his nearest competitor in Tendulkar who has nearly 22000 runs.

However, as the only active cricketer in the Top 10 highest run-getters in List A history, he can strengthen his grip at the fourth spot before he calls time on his illustrious career.
