Tony Greig passes away

Former English cricketer and commentator Tony Greig has passed away after battling lung cancer for a long time.

Greig first became aware he had a problem during Australia’s one-day series against Pakistan in Dubai in August and September.

He had been suffering from severe cases of coughing since May, which was initially diagnosed to be bronchitis but later it was revealed that Greig had a small malignant lesion at the base of his right lung.

On 20 October 2012, he had fluid removed from the right lung and testing revealed he had lung cancer.

‘‘It’s not good. The truth is I’ve got lung cancer. Now it’s a case of what they can do,’’ Greig said. “I have had a few scrapes in my life and this is another one.”
