There were doubts raised over the place of Indian vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, during the year. The right-hander was not able to deliver the goods in the last couple of years but Rahane was able to turn the tables in 2019. The talisman scored 642 runs in 11 innings and scored his runs at an average of 71.33. Rahane scored five half-centuries and two hundreds in the calendar year to roar back into form.

Jinx was the second-highest run-getter in the two-match series against the West Indies. The Mumbai batsman scored 271 runs at a staggering average of 90.33 in the Carribean.

Rahane scored a fine knock of 81 in the first innings of the first Test against the Windies and followed it with 102 in the second essay. The right-hander also scored a sublime knock of 115 in the third Test against the Proteas. Rahane is one of the pillars of India's batting unit and it was imperative for the team that he gets back his form.

#1. Mayank Agarwal

What a year it was for the greenhorn opener, Mayank Agarwal. The right-hander took no time in finding his feet in international cricket and he was able to hit the ground running. Agarwal had scored a truckload of runs in the domestic circuit before making his Test debut and he was able to bear fruit for the hard yards he had put in while playing for Karnataka.

The 28-year-old scored 754 runs in 11 innings at an average of 68.54 in 2019. The right-hander has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and scored three centuries and two fifties in 2019. Out of the three centuries he scored, Agarwal was able to convert two of them into double tons. The Indian opener is only eight Test matches old but he has shown maturity in his game. India had been long looking for a stable Test opener and Agarwal has come as the solution to the team's woes.

Agarwal has shown the right technique and he is only going to get better with time. The right-hander had scored a fine knock of 215 against South Africa and also smashed 243 against Bangladesh in the first Test at Indore. Agarwal is currently second to Steven Smith in the list of leading Test run-scorers in 2019. The Australian talisman has scored 742 runs thus far.
