Mahela Jayawardene's brilliant catch to dismiss Kane Williamson
Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene took a stunning catch at first slip to dismiss New Zealand’s No. 3 Kane Williamson off the bowling of off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake in yesterday’s One Day International (ODI) match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Watch the video below.
Batting first, Sri Lanka could only manage 218 runs on the board, with no batsman except Jaywardene (104 off 107) getting past the 25-run mark. Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan picked up 4 wickets in his 10 overs, conceding only 36 runs.
The home team found themselves in a spot of bother, 4 down for 77 in 11.1 overs, before all-rounder Corey Anderson’s 96-ball 81 helped them reach the target in 43 overs. Nuwan Kulasekara and Senanayake picked up 2 wickets each.
Anderson was declared as the Man-of-the-Match. New Zealand lead the 7-match series series 1-0, and the second ODI will be played at Hamilton on January 15.
