It’s been a couple of days since Virender Sehwag officially announced his retirement from international cricket and the Indian Premier League, but the tributes are continuing to pour in. As someone who entertained the crowd with his breathtaking approach to batting, Sehwag has found many admirers from within the cricketing world as well, especially from the Men in Blue.

One such player is current Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. Though the 26-year-old didn’t get to share too much of the Indian dressing room with Sehwag as the latter was struggling with form late on his career before being dropped from the Indian team, but hailing from Sehwag’s hometown Delhi, Kohli knows Sehwag better than many.

While preparing for the fourth one-dayer at Chennai which is currently underway, Kohli took time out to share his thoughts on Sehwag. Recalling his fondest memories of watching Sehwag in action, Kohli said that both of Sehwag’s triple centuries were equally special, especially considering the way he batted in both those knocks.

Kohli remarked that it was an honour to play alongside Sehwag and singled out the honesty of the 37-year-old as his biggest quality. Kohli said that cricketers from Delhi, him included, used to look up at Sehwag and dream of playing in the same side as Sehwag, be it the Delhi Ranji team or the Indian national team.

“I’ve had a brilliant experience with him as he used to make us comfortable every time and have interactions with him regarding my game,” Kohli said.

Kohli also touched upon the funny side of Sehwag who is someone who has earned a fan following just with his quirky replies.

“In general also he was a very funny person in the dressing room. Not many would actually know that,” he said. “The things he used to say were pretty straight up and front on. It used to be very funny that he could say anything to anyone and be very honest about it.”

Kohli had earlier taken to micro-blogging site Twitter to pay his tribute to Sehwag.
