What's the story?

As team India keeps moving forward in terms of preparations ahead of the World Cup, the bowling department is one place which is the side's strong zone, as it gives the two-time World Champions a definite upper hand over their opponents.

Yuzvendra Chahal the wrist-spinner is one of them, and he has been in some good form of late, especially considering the vital role he played in the recent Australian limited-overs' games in January.

Chahal who is also a favourite among the other Indian stars, was recently asked to compare the approaches in captaincy by Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma. Having played under both of them, Chahal did have valid points.

In case you didn't know...

Yuzvendra Chahal began his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians, where he played under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. He then switched franchises to RCB, where Kohli was captain. Consistent performances in the IPL earned him the Indian cap, where he has been equally good with the ball over at least the past couple of years.

Chahal remains one of India's prime spin choices in the limited-over-formats, and he continues to play under Virat Kohli - and in Kohli's absence, under Rohit Sharma too.

Chahal is one of the few bowlers in the world to claim a six-fer each in both ODIs and T20Is. In T20Is, he achieved the feat in February 2017, when he took 6/25 against England, while in the ODIs, the achievement was very recent - a 6/42 against Australia in the recent series Down Under.

The heart of the matter

Yuzvendra Chahal has thus played under some of India's greatest legends in Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit and was hence recently asked to draw a comparison between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma when it came to captaining the team.

His reply was quite fast and to the dot, as Chahal said that Kohli is almost like a warrior on the field, never missing out on a chance to display some aggression, while Rohit could be an extra opposite of that, always calm and composed. Chahal also compared Rohit Sharma's influence on the field to be that of like a Zen monk's.

The young wrist-spinner was quick to point out that despite the contrasting approaches to the job at hand, both captains were equally flexible when it comes to allowing the bowlers to express themselves while bowling.

He added that not only were they supportive and pardoning when the occasional mistake is made but that they would also be the first ones to congratulate whenever a plan works well.

What's next?

Chahal played just one game in the ODI series down under where he achieved the six-fer. He continued with a string of good performances in New Zealand where he picked seven wickets from four games, only second behind man-of-the-series Mohammad Shami who picked nine.

Coming up next will be the Australian tour of India, where the multi-time World Cup winners will be playing return fixtures in Indian territory, starting with the first T20I tomorrow. As mentioned in the beginning, team India is looking to prepare well for the bigger prize in sight this summer at England, and the upcoming Australian series would be a great way to cap off the training - especially considering how they are the defending World Champions.
