The previously No.1 ranked Kiwis might have stumbled in the decider at Thiruvananthapuram, but their spin attack shone on the Indian surfaces, exposing the hosts middle-order frailties in an hotly-contested series. Ish Sodhi, in particular, took to the conditions like fish to water, and was amply rewarded for his performances with a place in the top-5 bowlers in the latest ICC T20I rankings.

Sodhi picked up five wickets in the series, helping break into the top-10 for the first time in his career. His teammates, Trent Boult and Tim Southee, also made significant gains in the latest update. While left-arm pacer Boult moved to 16th spot (a career-best for him), after a jump of 14 places, Southee moved five places to be 81st in the list.

Virat Kohli was one of the lone warriors in a below-par Indian batting performance across the three matches, compiling substantial scores that helped him cement his spot at the top of the batting rankings and increase the gap between him and second placed Aaron Finch to 20 points. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, who made a record partnership in the first game at Delhi, moved up three places to 21st and 20 places to 45, respectively.

For the Kiwis, Colin Munro, who became only the fourth batsman to score two T20I hundreds, made a jump of four places to reach the 12th spot.

The Indian bowlers performed well at the death: Jasprit Bumrah, the No.1 ranked bowler currently, maintained his top spot, while his new-ball partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar (two place jump to 26th), as well as spinners Yuzvendra Chahal (up by 22 places to 30) and Axar Patel (moved 17 places to 62) were other gainers.
