Virat Kohli optimistic about leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to maiden IPL title

The criticism for the Indian Premier League(IPL) has been coming from all quarters. Apart from the betting and spot-fixing allegations that hit the tournament last year and somewhat damaged its credibility, the IPL has also been branded as an unnecessary burden in a packed international calendar, which is causing a player burn-out. Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) skipper Virat Kohli, though, is in no mood to lend credibility to any such allegations and has come out in support of the T20 league.

“The more we enjoy cricket, it will be that much better in IPL. In IPL there is a lot of enjoyment of players. Everybody is relaxed coming from international schedule. There is a good atmosphere and we will try to utilise it,” said the 25-year-old at the team’s jersey launch event.

Kohli has been in the form of his life in the recent past and will be looking to lead the Bangalore team to its first ever IPL title. RCB have lost in the final on two previous occasions, but the skipper believes that this year’s squad, with a few important additions, is good enough to go all the way.

“This time around we will hope to go few more steps ahead and actually get that trophy. We have added a few more quality players in the side and I am sure we will come out with flying colours,” he said.

“We try every year to win and we have a strong team. We will try to win the trophy because we have got a good combination this time and we will try to utilise it and try to win the trophy,” he added.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore play their first match against Delhi Daredevils on April 17 in Sharjah.
