During the first T20I between India and Australia, Virat Kohli scored a match-winning 90. That knock impressed everyone and a Virat Kohli fan in Pakistan, Umar Daraz, hoisted an Indian flag on his house roof in Okara city and got arrested for it and has claimed to be ignorant of his country law.

This incident created a lot of controversy on either side of the border and Umar was sentenced to jail. But now, there might be some twist in the tale as Virat’s family has come forward to help Umar.

As per Deccan Chronicle, Virat's brother, Vikas Kohli has agreed to seek his brother's views on convincing the Pakistan government to exonerate the die-hard fan who has been sent to jail. Vikas, on the eve of the second T20, said that his family is feeling sorry for Umar and added that he will ask Virat his views on the incident and decide whether to approach the Pakistan Government or not.

"Yes, we have heard about this incident and feel sorry for the fan. I shall certainly seek Virat's views after the match on Friday. We will also consult the right people and decide whether to approach the Pakistan government,” he said.

"We are in a family function today and can't think of the right people to be identified for this appeal at this moment but will surely speak to Virat,” Vikas added.

Earlier, regional police officer Faisal Rana confirmed that Umar was charged under Pakistan’s penal code for acting against Pakistan’s sovereignty and could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine.

“Umar initially told us that he is a true Pakistani but likes Kohli and never knew that was a crime. His act is against our country’s sovereignty and is against the ideology of Pakistan. He is a diehard fan of Kohli and there were big posters pasted on the walls of his house when we raided it,” Rana told media.

It would be a great gesture by Virat if he comes forward and saves his fan from misery for supporting him. Kohli has already scored 2 fifties in two T20s and has a total of 6 50+ scores in 7 innings in this tour. With series already in the kitty, India take on Australia in the third T20I at Sydney later today.
