Virat Kohli wants India to be ruthless and finish off the series with a victory

Since taking over from MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli has had a dream start to his career as India’s Test captain. After winning his first full series as full-time captain in Sri Lanka, Kohli has already led India to victory in the ongoing Freedom series against South Africa.

Both of India’s wins, at Mohali and Nagpur came on rank turners with both matches finishing inside three days. The Napgur pitch, which was rated “poor” by the ICC match referee, was slammed by Glenn Maxwell and Mathew Hayden. Kohli said that he didn’t want to talk about the pitches that were being played on and also added that no one talked about the Adelaide Test, which was also played over just two and a half days.

“Don't want to talk about the pitch. Don't think anyone has written on the Adelaide pitch, which finished in two and half days,” said Virat.

Before adding, “When we don’t play well it’s about our technique but when visitors don’t play well it’s the pitch”.

First Test as captain in front of home crowd

The fourth Test, which is to be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, will be the first time Kohli plays at his home ground as captain.

“It's a privilege that I'll be playing as a Test captain on my home ground,” said Kohli. “Kotla is where I kick started my career. I like the feel of the ground. It is very special feeling personally.”

When asked what the team’s mindset was going into the fourth Test, Kohli said that the team was looking to be ruthless and wanted to finish the series on a high.

“In our mindset we are trying to be ruthless. We are not happy with 2-0. We want to win 3-0.”

The team, which is filled with young blood, has only one ultimate purpose and that is to win said Kohli, he also went on to add that the team do not care for ranking, numbers or averages.

“We don't play for rankings. We don't play for numbers or averages. Winning is the ultimate thing,” said Kohli as he concluded the press conference.
