Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting was left with a bleeding face after a failed catch attempt during a recent Big Bash League match.

The Brisbane Heat player was seen with a nasty cut after the ball slid right through his fingers while attempting a catch. Marcus Harris was batting at the time while James Pattinson was the bowler.

The Renegades batsman mistimed one in the air in the first over of the match and would have had to head back to the pavilion for a duck had the catch been taken successfully.

However, it was not meant to be and the Melbourne Renegades batsman went on to score 28 from 18 balls before being bowled out by Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Here is a video grab of the incident:

Ben Cutting tried to hold on to the ball despite getting a smack on the nose. The ball bounced onto his chest after hitting his face and the 31-year-old tried to grab hold of it. After another despairing attempt to catch it as it was bobbling around, the ball finally landed on the ground and Harris was given a lifeline.

The all-rounder still appealed but the umpires decided to give the decision against Brisbane Heat as they felt the ball was not in full control of Cutting. However, it was great to see the all-rounder being extremely sporting as he smiled after indicating the medics to come on moments after the incident.

After the hefty blow, Cutting had to leave the field briefly to get treatment and dressing done for the cut. Luckily for fans, The Aussie player was back on the field of play after the end of the sixth over and seemed to be perfectly fine. He did, however, have to get five stitches for the cut. Timmsy, as Cutting is popularly known, even bowled a couple of overs in the match after coming on.

Harris also found the funny side of the incident after getting out. In an interview on Fox Cricket, he said, "I'll have to thank him later for doing that."

The Melbourne Renegades were in a commanding position in the match right from the beginning of their batting innings. Cameos from the lucky Harris and Tom Cooper and a quickfire 56* from Sam Harper helped them to a comfortable victory. They eventually chased down the total of 144 set by the Brisbane Heat in just 15.4 overs.
