Composition of West Indies’ Pace Attack

West Indies have a potent bowling attack in Tests. This was proven in the Test series. However, the outline of the bowling line-up remains uncertain in this format. Kemar Roach’s absence due to a stress reaction has caused serious concern about his availability for the World Cup. His presence is essential for West Indies to succeed as the experience and ability possessed by him is unmatched in West Indies cricket presently.

The likes of Oshane Thomas and Fabien Allen are exciting but yet to prove themselves in the big league of international cricket. Injury to Keemo Paul has been a setback as he is a very exciting prospect.

The interesting selection is Sheldon Cottrell. The 29-year-old has been around for a long time without producing a decisive spell at this level. His left-arm bowling provides a different angle and may be tested against England.

The absence of Shannon Gabriel is glaring as his pace and strength is exceptional. In his absence, there would be too much similarity in the West Indian pace line-up. He would certainly be brought back, maybe in the final match of this series, to add some spice to the attack.

Lastly, the spin bowlers would also be in the spotlight. Devendra Bishoo is under pressure after losing his place in the Test team while Ashley Nurse has looked useful. It is unlikely that Windies would always have room for both of them. Hence, it’s interesting to see who performs better.
