Yuvraj Singh wants to play the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup

Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who has been sidelined from the National team for quite some time has shown intentions of playing in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Yuvraj played his last International match earlier this year in March during the ICC World T20. He was out of action after the 2011 Cricket World Cup and returned one and a half years later after fighting against cancer.

Inconsistency and a lack of touch were clearly visible in everyone’s eyes and Yuvraj was soon overlooked after a couple of series. Though he was included in the T20 squad for quite a few games following that, he failed to make a cut in the recently concluded series against the West Indies in the United States of America.

As per the reports of India Today, he said, "I have been training pretty hard in the off-season for whatever opportunities I get going forward. Obviously, International cricket is why I am still playing. I want to come back and represent my country. Hopefully, if that happens, whenever I want to hang my boots, if I can sustain for another 2-3 years I will be proud of myself. My target is to play the 2019 50-overs World Cup."

The Cricketer from Chandigarh is currently playing the Duleep Trophy and is eyeing a possible entry to the main team. The southpaw has been an instrumental figure in Indian Cricket’s two biggest achievements in the past decade, the 2007 ICC World T20 win, and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup victory. Speaking about the possibilities of his international return, he feels that if he performs to his potential, it is possible but also admitted that the journey is not going to be easy. "If you have to be in the mix you have to perform to your best potential. If I can do that, I'm sure I’ll have chances,” he added.

This is the first time that the Duleep Trophy is being played under lights with the pink ball, a revolution in Indian Cricket indeed. The man who hit 6 Sixes in an over during the 2007 ICC World T20 and also a veteran of 40 Tests is excited about the Day/Night domestic matches and is looking forward to Test matches in ‘Pink’ balls.

Sharing his views on the matter, he said, "Definitely it has been exciting. Something to look forward to in Test cricket. The shine of the ball doesn't go off, so it stays pretty much new. The pink ball is still to be tested in turning conditions, the wicket we are playing on right now has a lot of grass. And then let's see the outcome. But it is exciting to play under lights."
