The Indian Premier League is said to be the tournament of opportunities, and it has been fulfilling its promise of giving talented players their chance to play for the national sides. Mohit Sharma is one such man who has finally got a chance or rather, in more appropriate words, ‘earned a chance’ to play for the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour.
The right-arm medium-fast bowler from Haryana came to the limelight during IPL 6 where he was more than just a rookie player. He gave some terrific performance by taking wickets up front that saw him cement his position by the end of the season as the opening bowler for the Super Kings. He has the ability to get that new ball into the right handers and make them struggle for room to play any shot.
His time in the Super King squad would not be forgotten easily by him as he had an impressive season where he took 20 wickets in 15 matches. This saga all started from the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season where he took 37 wickets from 7 matches at an average of 23 which earned him a place in the Super Kings side. His wickets mostly came because of his control on the ball and that tight in-dipper which can just beat the batsman for options.
Mohit Sharma’s bowling style is very unique. He does not have that aggressive body language and he always looks to bowl calmly and stick to the basics. And because of his calm approach to the game, he is able to repeatedly bowl those good length deliveries.
Mohit Sharma’s pace doesn’t look the most threatening, but his line and length may just run the batsman out of patience and force the batsman to do something silly. Mohit Sharma is the kind of bowler who does not seem to attack the wickets, but the batsman’s mind. He can just sense what the batsman is trying to do and bowl that magical bowl which can get him a whole lot of wickets.
Mohit Sharma’s performance in Zimbabwe may open even more doors for him as India is still scouting for a pace bowler as bowlers like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav are not able to retain their best shape.
The partnership of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohit Sharma may turn out to be a dreadful one for the opposition as both the bowlers have the ability to bowl economically and bowl the perfect line and length up front which can help them pick up those early wickets, frustrating the opposition.
