Zimbabwe vs India 2013: First ODI - Player ratings for Zimbabwe

Sikandar Raza Butt

Sikandar Raza Butt

India sealed a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the 5-match series at Harare Sports Club. Here are the Zimbabwean players’ ratings from the match:

Vusi Sibanda: 6/10

He almost made the Indians regret the decision of bowling first; he negotiated the early swing of the Indian pacers well. But in his innings of 34, he consumed 72 deliveries – resulting in the run-rate dropping to 3 runs a over. He was trapped by a googly from Mishra.

Sikandar Raza Butt: 9/10

Sikandar Raza gave a slow but steady start to Zimbabwe as he put on a 72-run opening stand on a difficult track. Unlike Sibanda, he made the most of his start, going on to bring up his first ODI half-century. This Pakistan-born opener laid a good platform for Zimbabwe to post a decent total.

Sean Williams: 4/10

Williams came into bat when Zimbabwe were in a good position. He was unable to rotate the strike, resulting in the run rate dipping further. He got out to a regular off-break from part time bowler Suresh Raina after getting his eye in. His bowling was not effective either.

Hamilton Masakadza: 4/10

Coming in ahead of the in-form Taylor, Masakadza tried to increase the run rate. His brief stay at the crease was ended by another googly from Mishra, which the Zimbabwean batsmen failed to read in entire match.

Brendon Taylor: 3/10

The Zimbabwean captain failed to capitalise on a decent start and got out to a rather ordinary ball from Unadkat, thus becoming the latter’s first international victim. He failed to have an impact as captain too as he gave away easy runs to the Indians in the middle overs.

Matthew Waller: 1/10

M. N. Waller’s innings lasted just 7 balls, before he was bowled playing inside the line of a good length ball from Mohammad Shami Ahmed.

Elton Chigumbura: 8/10

Chigumbura provided the finishing touch to the Zimbabwean innings, as the middle order around him were starting to crumble. His unbeaten 43 came off just 34 balls, which included six boundaries and a six over deep mid-wicket. He also took the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma.

Tinotenda Mutombodzi: 2/10

The leg breaks of the young T Mutombodzi were handled with ease by both Kohli and Rayadu, as he was belted for 65 runs in 7.5 overs. He never looked like taking a wicket and his inexperience was evident.

Prosper Utseya: 7/10

Although he couldn’t do much with the bat, he did bowl a decent spell of off-spin. He went for just 34 in 10 overs. He also took two wickets; however, the match was almost done and dusted by then.

Tendai Chatara: 6/10

Chatara, playing just his fifth ODI, bowled a very impressive first spell, not giving the Indians many scoring opportunities. He did not get any purchase off the wicket though, thus being denied any wickets.

Kyle Jarvis: 7/10

Jarvis, one of Zimbabwe’s brightest talents, impressed with his raw pace and aggressive bowling. He dismissed Dhawan with a good bouncer, which climbed on the batsman. He ended with figures of 40 for 1 in 8 overs.
