Wuthering Waves is Kuro Games' upcoming ARPG gacha game which will take place in an open world with a post-apocalyptic future. The official announcements have confirmed its global release on May 22-23, 2024, based on your time zone. In the upcoming version 1.0 update, there will be 17 resonators to obtain, divided into different tiers due to their rarity.

It will take a while for you to obtain your first 5-star character from summons. In the meantime, you will want to build resonators that will help in the early progression and still matter when you reach the endgame content. This article will highlight some of the best beginner characters to build in the Wuthering Waves 1.0 update.

Wuthering Waves: Best beginner characters to build

Before we start, it is worth noting that 5-star resonators will have always better base stats than their 4-star counterparts. Additionally, the good 5-stars will generally have better kits and you should prioritize building them in Wuthering Waves.

This article primarily focuses on which 4-star resonators and Rover (main protagonist) you should focus on to get through the early phases of the game easily. Here is a quick overview:

  • Baizhi
  • Danjin
  • Rover
  • Mortefi

Below is a brief about them and why to focus on them in Wuthering Waves.

Baizhi

  • Rarity: 4-star
  • Attribute: Glacio (Ice)
  • Weapon: Rectifier
  • Affiliation: Huaxu Academy (Jinzhou)

In Wuthering Waves, Baizhi is one of the starter characters you will obtain by progressing through prelude chapters. She is also the only other healer in the game apart from Verina. This makes her a must-build character until you obtain Verina or any other future healers.

She is a ranged Glacio character who can heal allies through her resonance skills and her ultimate. Even her intro, outro, and passive skills offer tons of healing along with buffs for allies to take advantage of.

Danjin

  • Rarity: 4-star
  • Attribute: Havoc
  • Weapon: Sword
  • Affiliation: Midnight Rangers (Jinzhou)

Danjin is a Havoc Sword resonator and will be your main DPS in most teams. The Crimson dual wielder is the embodiment of a glass cannon in Wuthering Waves. Her kit specialty lies in her resonance skill where she can sacrifice some of her HP to amplify her damage.

She is the only resonator who doesn't have a cooldown meter for using her skills, rather you will sacrifice some of her HP at each activation. However, Danjin's kit also provides her with considerable self-healing to stay alive during combat. Overall, she's a must-build character for early and end-game content if you are someone who loves high-risk high-reward gameplay.

Rover

  • Rarity: 5-star
  • Attribute: Spectro
  • Weapon: Sword

Rover is the main protagonist of Wuthering Waves and is supposed to be one of the better 5-star units in the roster. In the early phases of the game, you can only use the Spectro attribute through his/ her kit and abilities. Rover has very quick rotation and good energy regeneration.

The ultimate ability also deals quick burst damage and will provide decent heals to the entire team. As a character who is available from the start and will unlock new attributes as the story progresses, it will be wise for players to build him to clear early and late-game content.

Mortefi

  • Rarity: 4-star
  • Attribute: Fusion (Fire)
  • Weapon: Pistols
  • Affiliation: Huaxu Academy (Jinzhou)

Currently, you can only obtain Mortefi from Jiyan's debut banner or permanent banners. He is a ranged Fusion Pistol character who is decent DPS but his kit shines when played as Sub-DPS in Wuthering Waves.

When used as DPS, you get value by maxing out his Forte Circuit to deal massive AoE Fusion damage to nearby enemies. As a Sub-DPS, he can deal coordinated follow-up attacks with basic/heavy attack DPS units. Not only that, Mortefi's outro skill and some passives provide great utility to himself and his party members as well.
