Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught: Everything you need to know

The Genshin Impact 5.7 livestream revealed that a new permanent gameplay mode will soon be coming to Genshin Impact. Titled "Stygian Onslaught", this is a permanent combat event which will be introduced in version 5.7. Players can participate in Stygian Onslaught, defeat enemies, and clear various challenges in order to earn valuable in-game rewards.

Genshin Impact: Stygian Onslaught gameplay mode details

As stated, Stygian Onslaught is a permanent gameplay mode that all Genshin Impact players can participate in. Clearing the challenges in this mode will provide rewards such as Artifacts, Primogems, Mora, Mystic Enhancement Ores, and a new item called Dust of Enlightenment, which can be used to re-roll artifact substats. Stygian Onslaught can be played in single-player, as well as in co-op mode.

With every Genshin Impact version update, a new Stygian Onslaught challenge will be available for players to clear. This challenge will be divided into three phases — Battlefield I, II & III. Each phase will have one enemy boss, and the specific elements that have an advantage for the phase will also be displayed before picking teams.

Stygian Onslaught can be played on a total of five different difficulty levels, which are:

• Normal
• Advancing
• Hard
• Menacing
• Fearless

The Menacing difficulty can be unlocked only after clearing the challenge on Hard difficulty, while the Fearless difficulty can be unlocked after you have finished playing the challenge on Menacing difficulty. Additionally, once you have cleared Stygian Onslaught on Fearless difficulty, a special 'Dire' difficulty level will be unlocked.

How to use 'Exalted Ones' characters while completing the Stygian Onslaught challenges

As explained during the Genshin Impact 5.7 livestream, characters that are used by other players to clear challenges on Fearless and Dire difficulty will be given the status of "Exalted Ones". These characters will receive extra buffs for Stygian Onslaught, meaning that including them in your team will be really helpful — especially if you're trying to beat the higher difficulty challenges.

For example, if a huge majority of Genshin Impact players have used Skirk to clear Stygian Onslaught on Fearless difficulty, she will become an 'Exalted One' character and will have her Max HP, ATK%, and DEF% increased during the challenge. So if you own Skirk (in this example), you should definitely add her to your team lineup, as her buffs will come in handy.

After clearing Stygian Onslaught on Hard difficulty level (or higher), you can spend your Resin on obtaining Artifacts from the Ley Line blossom. There is a list of Artifact rewards that can be obtained from each challenge. However, for the first 10 days after the introduction of this gameplay mode, players can pick and choose which Artifact Domain they want the rewards to be from.

Dust of Enlightenment is a new item that will be added to the game once Genshin Impact 5.7 goes live. This item can be used to re-roll artifact substats so that you can turn a mediocre artifact into a good one. You can also choose which substats you want to prioritize before re-rolling.
