Hearthstone Standard Rotation: The 5 Best Arena Cards Rogue Will Lose in 2019

Rogue has always been one of the best classes in Arena in Hearthstone. It has a strong pool of Basic and Classic Cards such as Backstab, Sap, Eviscerate, Assassinate and more. In 2019, the cards from the sets Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne and Kobolds & Catacombs will leave Arena.

The Standard rotation cycle will affect Rogue as it is losing some great cards in Constructed too. Check out our other pieces on great Arena cards rotating out for other classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin and Priest. Here are some of the best ones Rogues will be losing.

#5. Shadowblade

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

Shadowblade is a weapon and weapons have strong value in Arena. The cost of Shadowblade is the same as Warrior's Fiery War Axe but it has a Battlecry. Pinging 3 damage to a minion while also being Immune can have a lot of value in Arena. This card is much more valuable in Arena than Constructed.

Whether you are clearing a 3-health or below minion or dealing damage to a large minion, the immunity comes in handy. Even when you punch the next turn without the immunity, it still has value because that is still 3 damage being dealt.

#4. Elven Minstrel

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Elven Minstrel provides draw and card draw is the best thing in Hearthstone. In Arena, you will rarely have card draw mechanics (except if you get lucky and draft a bunch). Arena also has a lot of reliance on good minions as well, so drawing your minions has a lot of value. Elven Minstrel is overall a solid card, having the same power level in Constructed. If you combo this with the new Rogue minion Spirit of the Shark, you can draw up to 4 cards!

#3. Plague Scientist

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

Plague Scientist is much more useful in Arena than Constructed. Poisonous minions in Arena stand out because they can be devastating to your opponent and they can't play a large minion of their choice. Plague Scientist allows you to give a minion Poisonous from hand, so your opponent will not see it coming. You can play around Poisonous minions on board, but not around minions that suddenly get Poisonous out of nowhere.

#2. Envenom Weapon

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Envenom Weapon is a card you will never see in Constructed. Like mentioned previously, Poisonous has a lot of value in Arena. Normally, Rogues use their Hero Power followed by Envenom Weapon to gain 2 charges of Poisonous on a 1 damage weapon.

Weapon removal is not so common in Arena, so it's very difficult to play around Envenom Weapon. The Poisonous effect is worth any face damage you take.

#1. Vilespine Slayer

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Vilespine Slayer stands on the top for both Arena and Constructed. Assassinate, a spell with no body and the same effect has a much higher value in Arena than Constructed. The ability to bounce back or shuffle Vilespine Slayers (due it to being a minion) and on top of being a hard removal with a decent statted body makes it the best Arena card from the sets.

Rogue already received a spell "Walk the Plank" which destroys undamaged minions, so the pool of cards is only getting a little weaker.

Honourable Mentions

Here are some Rogue class cards and Neutral cards which have also been great for the class.

Fal'dorei Strider

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

Fal'dorei Strider is possibly even better in Arena than Constructed. Getting free 4/4 bodies worth 12/12 stats is a lot of value especially when you don't have many cards in your hand or deck. The 4/4 Spiders can serve as a great backup and the shuffling doesn't saturate your deck.

Shroom Brewer

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Rogue pretty much has no heals. If you keep punching with your weapon, you're bound to have low health. Shroom Brewer helped to fill that gap for Rogue. It is a common card with a fair cost and a fair Battlecry. Shroom Brewer can also be used to heal damaged minions you want to keep up.

Fire Fly

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Fire Fly is a well-designed card that fits perfectly in all classes. It is not overpowered, it is not underpowered and is a really good 1-drop to play on any turn. It is especially powerful in Rogue because the 1 mana cost for the card as well as the 1 mana cost of the token can enable Rogues to use Combos, a keyword exclusive to the class.

By paying 5 mana, you can have 1 Fire Fly and draw with Elven Minstrel. By paying 6 mana, you can have 1 Fire Fly and destroy a minion with Vilespine.

Bonemare

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

Along with heals, Rogues have no Taunt minions. Bonemare is quite strong in Rogue because of the extra stats it gives as well as the Taunt. Bonemare has much better value in Rogue than most other classes because of this, even though it is an especially strong card for all classes.
