The much awaited Streamer Awards were given out today at a grand ceremony in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. While the decision on the awards themselves was taken on the basis of votes, many were not happy with Ludwig's victory of the Streamer of the Year title. Interestingly, most of those expressing their displeasure at his win are fans of xQc, who was also a nominee for the very same title.

Read on to find out why Ludwig and the Streamer Awards have become the source of controversy moments after the event ended.

xQc leaves the Streamer Awards empty, fans outraged: All you need to know

The Streamers Awards, initially announced on the 2nd of February by organizer QTCinderella, were a vote-based award ceremony for Twitch streamers. In the initial stages of voting, fans were asked to nominate their favorite streamers in 29 categories. The four most nominated streamers in each category will go on to be the four nominees that all fans will vote for.

The full VOD of the awards can be seen below (with the Streamer of the Year category starting at 04:38:04):

(The Best Political Streamer and the Best Sports Game Streamer categories were later removed to reduce the total categories to 27.)

Nominations were finalized on February 20 and voting for the Streamer Awards began the very next day.

This is where the mischief is being alleged by xQc fans who claim that QTCinderella and other organizers have misused their panel votes to offset the popular vote favoring xQc. The winning criterion for the awards was 70% of fan votes and 30% votes by a panel of members of the community chosen by the organizers.

xQc fans now claim that Ludwig was only able to win because the organizers boosted his share of the votes by directing an extra 30% share from the panel.

Many viewers and Ludwig supporters came out in support of Ludwig's win and are listing his 31-day subathon and his campaign to get votes for the Streamer Awards as the main reasons behind his win. It should be noted that while xQc averages higher viewer counts, he made no active effort to urge his audience to vote for him at the Streamer Awards.

The event's theme was to have a fun night out for streamers, with the awards being a secondary concern. It remains to be seen what the two streamers and the organizers of the event will say about the entire trending controversy.
