F1 driver Adrian Sutil has been handed over a 18 months suspended sentence for attacking Eric Lux, CEO of Genii Capital which owns the Renault F1 team. After a two day trial, a Munich Court convicted Sutil of causing grievous bodily harm to a F1 team owner. Besides the suspended sentence, Sutil was also fined 200,000 Euros for his crime.

The brawl between Sutil and Lux took place at a Shanghai Nightclub during the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix weekend in April, last year. Both of them were invited as guests to a party which was arranged to celebrate McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton‘s victory. Sutil had allegedly attacked Lux with a champagne glass. Lux has suffered cuts on his face as a result of this incident. However, Sutil pleaded guilty and apologised, a few days ago. Sutil had suggested that he only meant to spill the champagne rather than hitting him. With this conviction, the court seems to have not taken Sutil’s apology into consideration.

This spells further trouble for the former Force India driver, who was replaced by Nico Hulkenberg this season, despite performing well last year. It is highly unlikely that Sutil, whose age is 29 currently, will get a F1 drive in the near future. What’s worse is that the FIA may penalise Sutil by taking away his Super-license. FIA have been mum on this issue so far. This is no official word from them yet.
