The wheels have been set in motion for the launching of an American Grand Prix which will first see action in June 2014.

The race which was originally set to be staged in June 2013, got postponed, as F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone pulled the plug on the deal because the organizers “had not complied with the terms and conditions of the contract”.

Following this, Ecclestone helped the organizers financially when the event managed to accumulate some huge debts.

This led to a renewed 15-year contract, making the Grand Prix’s presence on the F1 calendar more palpable.

Leo Hindery Jnr, the GPA executive chairman and race promoter, said: “The Grand Prix of America at Port Imperial has been a dream of many in the sport for over a decade.”

The race, which is scheduled to take place after the Canadian Grand Prix, is slated to take place along the banks of the Hudson River in New Jersey.

“Thanks to the patient, invaluable support of Bernie Ecclestone and FOM (Formula One Management) we now have the long-term sanctioning agreement needed to go racing for years to come, starting in June 2014,” he added.
