Heikki Kovalainen not considering Le Mans move

F1 Testing in Jerez - Day One

Heikki Kovalainen has claimed that he is yet to give up on his Formula One career and that he is not considering a move to Le Mans-style sports cars. The Finn lost his Caterham race seat but his hopes were raised after a practice drive at Spa last weekend.

“Everyone knows my situation. I do not come with money and, if I do get a sponsor, then I’ll take the money for myself,” he told Turun Sanomat newspaper.

With Mark Webber set to move to the Porsche prototype at the end of the season, it is suggested that the Finn will also make a move away from F1 and move to Le Mans following the lights of Sebastien Buemi, Nick Heidfeld, Bruno Senna and Kamui Kobayashi.

“I admit that I was a bit surprised. At the end of last year I sat next to him on a plane and it sounded like he was full of motivation. So it was a bit of a surprise, but I suppose he has considered it carefully,” said Kovalainen when asked about Webber’s decision.

However, the driver dismissed a similar move by him by saying that he still has a feeling for Formula One and also thinks that he has more to give to the sport.
