Home Support - The Ultimate Support

You may have heard people saying, ‘Oh, beating them at home is going to be hard.’ It just goes to show what fans can do to a morale of a player/team. Today’s Suzuka GP was the perfect example of this with Kamui Kobayashi finishing on the podium becoming the first Japanese driver to achieve a podium finish since 2004 at home.

The crowd was fantastic throughout the race. Every time Kamui passed a stand in his Sauber, every one would jump up in unison and start to wave those Japanese flags. It was great to watch specially because you usually never hear the crowd in Formula 1 over the noise of the cars. Today’s Grand Prix was special because at times, the crowd were even louder than the cars!

The packed grandstands cheering on the home hero – Kamui Kobayashi

One of the reasons why teams perform well in their home grounds/circuits is because of the huge expectations from the fans and the determination to please the fans and give them a good time. Kamui Kobayashi did just that and the fans weren’t hesitant to show their appreciation. I mean, being heard over the roar of cars travelling at 300 km/hr isn’t a small feat!

Home fans on their feet

Home support can go a long way in encouraging the home team and feeding them with the will to win. I guess, you can’t help but get encouraged when tens of thousands of people are chanting your name. It just goes to show the importance of the role the fans play in the world of sport.
